"The Fifteen-Year-Old Captain" is a novel by the French writer Jules Verne, first published in 1878. The plot of the novel begins with the fact that almost the entire crew of the whaling brig "Pilgrim" dies in a fight with a whale. After the death of the sailors, Dick Sand, a fifteen-year-old boy, has to become the captain of the ship. Five negroes, who happened to be on a ship, help Dick to sail to America - that's where the "Pilgrim" was supposed to go. But the treacherous Negoru, the ship's cook, secretly changes course. This is how the friends end up in Africa, because Negoru, an agent of the slave owners, wants to take revenge on Dick and sell the Negroes into slavery. All passengers of the brig "Pilgrim" find themselves in mortal danger, from which they manage to get out alive only thanks to Dick Sand...
